Cold Room Evaporator: Coil Internal Oil Fouling and Cleaning Strategy

Refrigeration oil circulates together with refrigerant. A small portion of oil adheres to inner coil wall and gradually forms oil fouling layer over time. Oil film on heat transfer surface increases thermal resistance. It hinders heat exchange between refrigerant and fin side air and lowers cooling efficiency. Xindacool evaporator internal pipe surface adopts smooth treatment, reducing oil adhesion tendency during long-term system operation. Oil fouling accumulates slowly. The influence is unobvious in the first two years, but energy consumption rises steadily after three to four years. System oil return design determines oil accumulation speed. Poor oil return makes more lubricant trapped inside evaporator coil. When oil fouling is serious, simple external fin washing cannot solve the problem. Chemical circulation cleaning inside coil pipeline is required. Oil separator installed before evaporator can reduce oil entering coil. Regular inspection of oil separator function helps slow oil fouling formation. Too much trapped oil also narrows internal flow channel, increasing refrigerant flow resistance and causing uneven distribution in multi-circuit coils. Judging oil fouling requires comprehensive observation of power consumption, evaporator temperature difference and oil level change in compressor crankcase. After internal coil cleaning, refrigerant and lubricant should be replaced partially. Residual cleaning agent must be fully removed before restarting system. Oil fouling is different from dust fouling. Dust stays on fin outer surface, while oil contamination forms inside copper tube of the heat exchanger.

FAQ

Q: Where does oil fouling form on evaporator coil? A: Inside copper tube wall, lubricating oil carried by refrigerant adheres and builds up oil film. Q: What effect of internal oil film? A: It adds thermal resistance and weakens heat exchange efficiency of the evaporator. Q: Can external fin cleaning remove internal oil fouling? A: No, external washing only cleans fins; internal pipeline circulation cleaning is needed. Q: What equipment helps reduce oil entering evaporator coil? A: Oil separator can intercept lubricant and improve oil return performance of refrigeration system. Q: How to tell oil fouling problem? A: Monitor rising power consumption, abnormal temperature difference and compressor crankcase oil variation. Q: When does oil fouling impact become obvious? A: Usually after continuous running for three to four years under typical cold storage operating conditions. Q: What difference between oil fouling and dust fouling? A: Oil fouling exists inside coil tube; dust fouling accumulates on outer aluminum fin surface. Q: What work after finishing internal coil chemical cleaning? A: Remove residual cleaning agent and replace part of refrigerant and lubricating oil.
