Suction superheat is the temperature difference between suction gas saturation temperature and actual gas temperature. Appropriate superheat ensures refrigerant fully vaporizes before entering compressor and prevents liquid return. Thermostatic expansion valve adjusts refrigerant flow based on superheat sensed by bulb sensor. Too low superheat allows liquid refrigerant to return and brings liquid hammer risk to compressor. Excessively high superheat reduces cooling capacity and increases compressor discharge temperature. Formal refrigeration factory sets initial superheat value during unit commissioning on site. Sensor bulb poor contact with pipeline surface leads to wrong temperature feedback and wrong superheat control.
